THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UST Global has once again been crowned the champion in ‘Goal’, the premier football tournament of Technopark. In the finals held on October 15, UST defeated Tata Elxsi by 3-2 in the penalty shootout after both the teams were tied at 1-1 in regular time. Tata Elxsi took the lead early in the first half and UST returned the goal in the second. In the ensuing penalty shootout, the UST goalkeeper, Jeeth, saved three penalties. The third place went to Allianz Cornhill, which defeated Infosys 1-0. Jeeth Sasidharan of UST Global was adjudged the player of the tournament. The golden boot award was shared by Govind of Allianz and Sabarish and Ajay of UST Global, who scored five goals each.The ladies’ penalty shootout, conducted for the first time in the history of Goal, was won by the Tata Elxsi team. The matches were conducted on LNCPE football grounds and the prizes were handed over by S Gopinath, Inspector General of Police (Traffic & RSM).
