The State Government would go by the decision of the Karnataka High Court in the multicrore BBMP scam case, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar informed the Legislative Council on Wednesday.
In reply to a calling attention motion moved by the Congress member M R Seetharam in the Legislative Council, he said that the state government had ordered a probe by the Technical and Vigilance Committee of the Corporation (TVCC) after unearthing an incident in which of Rs 5.22 crore was paid to a contractor violating all norms.
Shettar said that an initial inquiry conducted by a Chief Engineer found that, in 2008-09, works worth Rs 1,539 crore were carried out and in 153 cases, it was found that the officials had paid over Rs 5.22 crore against those works which were not executed. These irregularities were detected in BBMP’s Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwar engineering sections. Taking note of the revelations, the state government has directed to register a criminal complaint and has ordered a CID probe into the alleged irregularities, Shettar said. A PIL seeking a CID probe into the alleged irregularities in the divisions of the BBMP has been filed in the Karnataka High Court, he noted.
“One more PIL seeking a CBI probe into the BBMP’s payment scam has also been filed, and it is yet to be disposed of,” Shettar said and assured the House to obey the Court’s directions. Shettar said the perpetrators ‘will not be spared.He said that the High Court has directed the BBMP’s TVCC to submit a report on the alleged irregularities in all the 26 engineering divisions in the BBMP. “The TVCC is probing into the alleged irregularities which took place during 2008-09,” he said.
