New Delhi Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that the Government has expanded in a big way the credit flow to the agriculture sector to help the farming community.
Responding to a question on suicides by farmers at a press conference in New Delhi Dr Singh said that the Government has expanded the agricultural credit flow by 30 per cent and earmarked Rs 13,000 crore to reform the cooperative credit structure.
"The Government will increase loan facility to farmers and widen
the scope for crop insurance," he said.
Dr Singh said agriculture insurance was making a slow progress.
"As the agriculture becomes commercial, the risk for farmers would increase and the Government would take intervening steps to remove the risks," he said.
