CHENNAI: The Corporation Council on Wednesday gave its nod to Hyderabad-based Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL), to replace Neel Metal Fanalca (NMF) from conservancy operations in the newly created three zones from January next.The Council adopted several important resolutions including the formation of three Corporation regions (five zones each), reclaiming custody and maintenance of Marina Beach from the PWD for better maintenance, repair of 30 arterial roads under special road development scheme and planting of two lakh saplings to make the city greener.A `7600-crore proposal with more impetus on road development, storm water drain constructions and infrastructure for the next five years, formation of coordination panel to rectify communication gap in allowing road-cuts and launching of the Makkalodu Maanagaratchi programme to involve public were the other resolutions adopted. As per the resolution, in the expanded Corporation, comprising 42 adjacent local bodies, will be divided as North Chennai, Central Chennai and South Chennai regions. Each region would be headed by an IAS officer and a senior IAS officer.
