A three-member committee formed by Orissa High Court to take stock of health care facilities in the State has expressed dissatisfaction over the health care infrastructure at the district headquarters hospital in Dhenkanal.
During its visit to the hospital on Saturday, it expressed concern at the prevailing state-of-affairs that included garbage heaps on the hospital premises, leaking roof and walls and patients lying at the verandah of the hospital in unhygienic conditions.
Inadequate waste management, lack of doctors and equipment have been affecting health services in the hospital for a long time, much to the disappointment of the patients.
The team comprised lawyers Tarananada Patnaik, Pravat Ranjan Das and an expert from the State Government, Pradipta Kumar Pradhan.
The committee informed that they had received complaints about the blood bank of the hospital. They also inquired about waste management of the hospital.
CDMO in-charge Lingaraja Hota was present during the team’s visit.
Malaria claims 12 in Patrapur, 400 affected
Berhampur: Notwithstanding the district administration’s awareness programmes on water-borne and vector-borne diseases, malaria continues to affect people in Patrapur block of the district.
According to reports, as many as 12 persons - mostly belonging to Ankuli panchayat and between the age group of two and 13 years - have died of malaria in the last fortnight.
Over 400 persons have been affected. While some have been admitted to Patrapur hospital, others are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical.
To worsen the situation, there aren’t enough doctors in the Patrapur hospital. Against the sanctioned strength of seven doctors, Patrapur hospital has just three.
Nearby primary health centres at Turubudi, Tumba and Nuapentho have no doctors at all.
