MADURAI: The hearing of a plea by Madurai Corporation Mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan, seeking anticipatory bail in the case in which she had been charged by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption was adjourned for June 24, by the Madurai Bench of the High Court on Monday.DVAC officers have filed a case against the Mayor and the Commissioner Sebastine alleging that they had received bribes from a person for permitting him to construct a house on land belonging to the Municipal Corporation in ward 9.Mayor Thenmozhi, in her petition seeking anticipatory bail, had said that on instructions from the chief magistrate of Madurai, the DVAC officers had included her also in the criminal case. Thenmozhi said she was holding a position of high respect in the society. She had averred that she would not conceal the documents or interfere with the probe and would abide by the conditions stipulated by the the court.When her petition came up for hearing before Justice R S Ramanathan, government pleader informed the Bench that the DVAC officers had not handed over the relevant documents to him and assured that he would file the counter when the documents are available. Following this submission, the Judge adjourned hearing of the plea for June 24.
