Henin, Sharapova storm into semis
Maria Sharapova advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open for the first time by brushing aside Anna Chakvetadze 6-3 6-4.

New Delhi: The possibility of an all-Serbian final looms large as the French Open got its semi-finalists in the women's singles.

World No. 1 and 2 Justin Henin and Maria Sharapova will need to get past Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic, who with their performances so far, look good enough to go the full distance.

Top seed Justine Henin earned her place in the semi-finals beating Serena Wiliams in straight sets.

The matchs was a let down as Serena Williams, with an Australian Open title behind her this year, was tamed by Henin easily, registering a thumping 6-4, 6-3 win over the American.

Henin set up a clash with Jelena Jankovic. The Serbian was up against Russian Nicole Vaidisova and was in top form.

Jankovic won the first set with ease giving away just three games. Vaidisova fought hard in the second set but her effort was not enough as she piled up 42 unforced errors. Jankovic didn't let the pressure up and closed out the match 7-5 in the second set.

Russian Maria Sharapova also booked her place in the semi-finals. The second seed had no trouble against Anna Chakvetadze.

Sharapova raced away with the first set 6-3 in just 39 minutes. And even though Sharapova committed more errors than her Russian opponent, Chakvetadze had no answers to her power play. She won the match 6-3, 6-4.

In the final quarter-final, Ana Ivanovic shocked last year's finalist Svetlana Kuznetsova in the opening set, winning it 6-0 in just 21 minutes.

Kuznetsova recovered a bit in the second to win that 6-3, but the 19-year-old Ivanovic came back in the third set winning the match 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 to meet Sharapova in the semis.
