City Express asks Bangaloreans about their expectations from the Indian contingent

I would expect India to win a gold this time around in boxing because we have quite a large number going in and it seems to be a sport where we have been getting better. I also feel that we will excel in shooting because we have already won a gold before and Archery, too, because an Indian was ranked the best in the world recently.

Since Saina Nehwal, the Badmin-ton ace is performing well, I hope that she would stand out as a gold medalist in this Olympics. I am also confident that other participants will also be able to contribute to the medal tally.

Prajwal Shetty, IT professional

I am a boxing fan and so I am expecting more than one medal in boxing. I feel India has a good change to make it big in tennis doubles as Leander Paes and Sania Mirza will be together. Also, I am hopeful that athletes will show some fireworks in London.

Rohit Singh, an MNC employee

Every Indian wishes to witness some glorious win in this biggest sporting event. I am expecting lots of medals considering we have sent the biggest contingent ever.

Nandini, an MNC employee

It is indeed a matter of great pride and honour that we have 81 participants this year. I am particularly looking forward to watching the Sania-Paes team in tennis and have high hopes for our hockey team too.

Satish Chandra, restaurateur

Britain has been so good for Indian sport:Olympic hockey gold, Kapil's devils, All England for Prakash and Pullela Yuvi and Kaif's heroics at Lords. So we must get 5 medals at least from shooting, hockey and wrestling. Can't wait for the Olympics to begin. I will be following it every day.

Bodhisattva Gupta, environment activist

I have high expectations on Abhinav Bindra, shooter; Susheel Kumar, wrestler and Vijender Singh, boxer. I hope they will bring glory to the nation. I hope all the other athletes give a tough competition to Russians, Americans and Chinese and make India and Indians proud.

Suresh Rajendran, an MNC employee

I think it is amazing that we have such a huge number of participants this year. I can’t wait for the tennis tournaments to begin. Both Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna are extremely talented and I would like to wish them good luck.
