Hired killers from city held in Salem

SALEM: A six-member contract killer gang of Chennai, engaged by a local bootlegger Venkatachalam to bump off his business opponent, was arrested here on Saturday. Police said that locals spotted a van near a lake in Thalaivsal near Attur. The car, spotted by residents around 5 am on Saturday, remained at the same spot till evening. Locals who grew suspicious over the stranded car informed the police.Teams from Attur and Thalaivasal police stations, arrived at the spot and rounded up the gang. During interogation the4 gang members told that they were from Medavakkam in Chennai and were engaged by Venkatachalam, a local bootleger, to kill his business rival.
