New Delhi: Matej Sedmak was born in Slovenia, a small country in Central Europe, in 1984.
On July 20, 2004, he left his country and the security of his home to travel around the world. He left with just a backpack, a guitar and $ 200.
His aim is to hitchhike around the earth with the help of the local people till he reaches the place from where he started -- Slovenia.
His journey took him to Italy and France -- Marseilles.
From there he walked for 870 kms to reach Camino de Santiago in Spain.
From there he flew to the United States and hitchhiked from New York to San Diego, California. On the way, he changed his eating habits and became a vegetarian.
Sedmak then spent ten days meditating and calming his mind and realised that he had learnt more in those moments of solitude than he had in the entire journey.
He hitched his way to Costa Rica and from there decided to continue with no money, bringing the world a message of peace. He then returned to Mexico and went to Cuba, where he was arrested and accused of being an American spy.
After he was released, Sedmak realised that he would never have learnt the meaning of freedom if he had not spent 13 days at the Havanna Jail.
When he resumed his journey, he decided to keep unloading his baggage on the way. Gradually his backpack got lighter, the severance with the material world nearly complete.
When he reached Tokya, Sedmak decided that he had had enough of his backpack. He stuffed his pockets with bare essentials, gave away his backpack and continued his journey.
On December 8, he reached India on a plane ticket someone had bought for him. He is still in India and has written to the President - APJ Abdul Kalam - to unite India with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He hopes his peace message will be taken seriously.
