COIMBATORE: In a murky disclosure a Coimbatore-based man who had managed to obtain divorce by impersonation has reportedly told the police that he had paid `6 lakh to a lawyer for an “early divorce”. V B Sivakumar was arrested along with his elderly parents on Tuesday from a farmhouse, after his estranged wife complained that he had remarried. His wife alleged that another woman impersonated her in the court and granted ‘consent’ for mutual divorce. Police sources said that Sivakumar admitted paying `6 lakh in two installments to lawyer A Balasubramani to facilitate legal relief. He claimed that he was not aware of impersonation as he had appeared in the court only once. When Express contacted Balasubramani, he denied the charges. “I am just a junior. How can I be involved in a major fraud like this? I am being made a scapegoat. There are several important persons involved. I am prepared to surrender before the police or court as I have been receiving life threats from various quarters,” he claimed. A police officer hinted that more persons could be arrested soon.
