BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has expedited the process for establishment of multi-skill development centres (MSDC) in the State to enhance skills of the rural youths.MSDC experts from Karnataka made a presentation about the skill training provided in their state at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary BK Patnaik in the Secretariat. The MSDCs in Karnataka are imparting skill training with technical assistance from GTZ International Services, Germany, in six major areas like advanced wielding, electronics design and manufacturing, industrial automation, construction technology, tool Room and training centre, electrical and electronics maintenance and information technology. The State Employment Mission has identified various trades for skill training and the strategy paper of the mission has set the target of imparting skills to 2 lakh youths in construction, 2 lakh in textiles and apparel, 1.50 lakh in driving, 1.50 lakh in manufacturing, 0.50 lakh in paramedics, 0.50 lakhs in security services, 0.50 lakhs in hospitality, 0.50 lakhs in information technology, 0.50 lakhs in retail business, 0.50 lakhs in telecom, banking and accounting sectors.The State Employment Mission has enlisted Larsen and Toubro, Tata Groups, GMR, GAMMON India, Punj Lloyd Associates, Nagarjuna Constructions, IVRCL Infra, LANCO, SIMPLEX, Sahi, Intimate Fashion, Ventura, Raymond, SP Apparels, Arvind Mills, ITC, NSL Group, Brandix, Gitanjali Group, BOSCH, Mahindra, Apache Software, Nokia and Jindal as training partners and potential employers in these sectors.The meeting decided to set up two such centres - at Jatni in Khurda district and another at Berhampur in Ganjam district - in the current financial year. The proposal for set up trainers training institute and upgradation of Government ITIs with technical expertise from GTZ and Karnataka MSDC were also discussed in the meeting. It was decided to upgrade 14 Government ITIs at Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Takatpur, Baripada, Anandapur, Barbil, Chhatrapur, Umarkote, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Boudh, Bolangir and Khariar Road.The Chief Secretary advised Employment and Technical Education Department to expedite the process for establishment of such centres. Secretary E & TE C.S Kumar, senior government officers and representatives from Karnataka MSDC participated in the discussions.
