Understanding of GodTo me, God is our consciousness and a supreme power as is our universe. I don’t believe in any iconic representation of God but to me, god is represented by the environment around us. The icons always create differences among us, but the universe and environment is for one and all.Religious practices and spiritual experiencesThe religious practices are to affirm my belonging to the society. I occasionally visit temples along with my family. I do visit churches because of the peaceful atmosphere that brings calmness to my heart and in my mind. My most memorable experience was meeting Mother Teresa. That was when I understood that spirituality was nothing but taking care of the “other side of this society”!Belief in miraclesYes, I do believe in miracles, but if it’s a miracle in life, that happens only through hard work, confidence and lateral thinking! I don’t believe in magical miracles or religious madness. They are just tricks.Favourite pilgrimage spotsI don’t like pilgrimages. One’s eternal journey should be towards self exploration rather than a chaotic journey to see a statue or idol. I feel that religious pilgrimages are more of a celebration rather than a spiritual exploration. On meditationMeditation is good for the mind and health. It’s also a path to self discovery and spirituality. Kaustav Sengupta is a professor at NIFT, Chennai, and also the founder of InkLink Collective Unschool, an online education portal.
