IC-814 hijack verdict deferred
The Indian Airlines flight IC-814 from Kathmandu with 180 people on board was hijacked on Dec 24, 1999.

New Delhi: A CBI court in Patiala on Tuesay deferred on Tuesday its verdict on three men who were part of the Kandahar hijacking conspiracy.

The masterminds behind the IC-814 hijacking of 1999 were never nabbed but three other men said to have played some sort of role have been in the Patiala jail ever since.

Over 120 witnesses have been examined in the case. The conspirators are accused of helping Pakistani hijackers procured fake passports and took weapons aboard the plan.

Maulana Masood, one of the militants let off by India in exchange for the lives of those on board, has grown with his group the Jaish e Mohammed.

But none of the main hijackers of flight IC 814 have ever been caught. The five main accused were given safe passage and two others have been missing.

Only three are in jail, Abdul Latif, Bhupal Man Damai and Dalip Kumar Bhujel and they are only the bit players in the hijack plot.
