Imtiaz Ali said there is a dearth of good producers but he will never venture into film production.

Mumbai: Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali, who has given three hit movies, today said there is a dearth of good producers but he will never venture into film production. Imtiaz made his directorial debut in 2005 with 'Sochna Na Tha' starring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. The film did not do well at the box office but won critical acclaim.

His next project, 'Jab We Met' (2007), starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor was a mega hit and the next one 'Love Aaj Kal' (2009) also did well at the box office.

His latest film, 'Rockstar', was declared semi-hit and its lead actor Ranbir Kapoor won awards in the Best Actor category at various award functions.

"There is a dearth of producers, who understand film. There are producers who are good, creative and know their job. But there should be many more such good and innovative producers," Imtiaz told reporters at the FICCI Frames event here.

Asked if he would like to turn producer, the 40-year-old said, "I would not like to turn producer ever. I have no plans for this."
