Celebrating Franz Liszt’s two hundredth birthday, City Express embarked on a sonorous journey with the piano virtuoso.Elegiac tones intensified the naked contours of melody, as Ang Li displayed intimacy in the arrangement of arpeggio and variations. While the crisp notes of Wagner-Liszt Liebestod were played with graceful filigree; the blending of disparate characters created music beyond extraordinary. And, in the inwardness of intricate notes, the melange of meditation and sepulchral tunes characterised a brilliant performance. Whereupon delineating compositions with drifting sounds creates rhythmic structures; minimalism in oriental texture brings forth a whole new dimension to music. With Chen Peixun Autumn over moon, the artiste exuded flawless precision. Reminiscent of cherry blossoms and apple orchards; this oriental piece was a marriage of gentle notes and melodic fluidity.Embodying angst and striking individual identity with suspense; Louie Memories in an Ancient Garden combined the raw beauty of harmonic textures and ambient sounds. A hauntingly beautiful rendition of emotions; the spirit of the melody is indeed a contrapuntal discovery. With this routine, melodies emerged from the musician in a pure cantabile that ousted grandiosity. With the Schubert Liszt pieces, ricocheting melodies converged to a labyrinth of emotions and memories. Seeking diversity in the palette of sound textures; these multi-layered symphonies are a swirling revelation.
