In Tamil Nadu's Nagercoil, 100 Govt College Students Clean Pond
A student said that they are engaged in cleaning work not only in their college but also in other areas such as public places, tourist spots and surrounding places.

Government Arts & Science College students, Punnai Nagar, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, inspired everyone with a noble initiative performed recently. As per Local 18 Tamil, these students cleaned a nearby place named Aandiyar Pond, a famous tourist spot.

This pond was renowned for its boating a few years ago. However, due to the lack of cleanliness, the boat rides were stopped for the time being. The students took up the task of removing the filth on themselves and cleaning the garbage in the pond. They are doing this as a part of the National Welfare Project. Praveen Sanju, a college student, said, “We along with about 100 students of the National Welfare Project have cleaned the Aandiyar Pond, which is located in the town next to our college and was overgrown with bushes without adequate maintenance.”

Praveen said that they are engaged in cleaning work not only in their college but also in other areas such as public places, tourist spots and surrounding places. He thanked the college administration, Principal Prakashi Aruljyoti and National Welfare Project Coordinator Achi for their full cooperation in this initiative.

As per Local 18, students have kept the premises of their educational institution neat. This highlights the commitment of the students to maintaining cleanliness in their surrounding areas. Due to their work in cleaning the water body, the Aandiyar pond has been cleaned to a large extent. With the cleaning work being successful, it feels that the boating club in the Aandiyar Pond will be started soon. Currently, no boats are operational in the pond, which shows that some cleaning work on the overgrown bushes still needs to be done. For the cleaning purpose, the 100 students were divided into groups of 3-4 participants each, who worked with all might to complete the task.

While doing the task, the college students also took great care of themselves. They wore caps and hand gloves, to protect their body from any possible infections. When their work was completed, they proudly held a poster showing their college’s title for the cameras.
