BANGALORE: The number of existing police personnel is not enough for future and measures should be taken to increase their number in the State, former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IPG) Neelam Achuta Rao said.Speaking at a farewell programme organised at Kormangala Parade Grounds on Thursday, he said, “New layouts have come up in many parts of the State, including Bangalore and there is a need to increase the number of police personnel to control crimes. The Police Department has a tough time ahead.”Mentioning that the department had received many facilities, he said, “In my 35 years of service, even under  lot of political pressures and strict restrictions from officers, I have performed my duty within the legal limits. Police personnel  are made to work in two shifts for 12 hours. The  government can ease the burden on the police and can make them work in three shifts and provide them more facilities”.DG&IGP Shankar Bidari described Neelam Achuta Rao as one of the able officers who carried out their duty efficiently without any black mark.  City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji and other officials were present on the occasion.   DGP A R Infant did not attend the event.
