Indians lose in Asian Badminton event
India's badminton contingent suffered a massive blow at the Asian Badminton Championships in Malaysia on Thursday.

New Delhi: India's badminton contingent, currently in Johar Baru, Malaysia for the prestigious Asian Badminton Championships, suffered a massive blow with most of the shuttlers bowling out of the competition.

Anup Sridhar, India's best bet for the men's title, managed to escape the rout his teammates did, as he beat Thailand's Poompat Sapkulchananart 23-21,

21-14 in the second round.

Teenage sensation Saina Nehwal was also ousted in the second round, but went down with a fight to China's world's number 10 Jiang Yanjiao 17-21, 21-19, 14-21.

Also among the ousted Indian participants were Trupti Murgunde from the women, and Ravinder Singh and Anand Pawar from the men.

In the mixed doubles event, the pair of V Diju and Aparna Balan were eliminated by Xu Chen and Zhao Tingting of China.
