CUMBUM: Bus services between Kerala and Tamil Nadu resumed after 21 days, on Sunday. However, the services were suspended in the evening according to sources. Services across the state border were suspended ever since protests gained momentum following the Mullaiperiyar row. Tension prevailed in Theni district of Tamil Nadu and Idukki district of Kerala following the fall out between the two states. Vehicular mo-vement between the two sta-tes through Kumily, Bodi Mettu and Cumbum Mettu came to a standstill on December 5 as protestors blo-cked traffic. Kerala State Transport Corporation withdrew its services to Cumbum, Palani and Madurai, as Tamil Nadu withdrew its services to Kattapana, Thekkady, Elaparai, Nedunkandam, Ernakulum and Trivandrum.Transportation of essential commodities was suspended. On Sunday, around 2 pm, three buses from Lower Camp operated service towards Kumily at Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. It is said that traders and police from Kerala burst crackers welcoming passengers from Tamil Nadu.Similarly, one bus was operated from Cumbum to Kattapana with police protection. As the bus reached Kattapana, Kerala police took control of the vehicle.However, truck service continued to remain suspended. According to police, efforts were being made to restore normalcy across the border and to resume bus and truck traffic in a step by step manner. According to sources, no buses were seen plying between the two states in the evening.
