Paris: Fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic struggled to reach the third round of the French Open for the fifth straight year in defeating Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 on Thursday.
Jankovic won 13 of the first 16 points against Kanepi and went up 4-0 after breaking her twice.
Jankovic, who reached the semifinals of the French Open twice, closed out the first set in 28 minutes before losing her serve in the eighth game of the second when Kanepi fired a backhand winner on her second break point of the match.
Play was halted for 55 minutes because of rain and Jankovic broke at love for a 4-2 lead which she immediately wasted, losing her serve in the next game.
Sporting a flashy yellow outfit, Jankovic raised her level in the 10th game to make the decisive break.
