Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday re-arrested separatist leader Masarat Alam, who was earlier in custody after his supporters waved Pakistani flags in a public rally in April, 2015.
In a report published in 'The Hindu', Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League spokesman Mohammed Rafiq Ganai said, "He (Alam) was released when a copy of the High Court order was shown to the jail authorities. As he was within the jail premises, a few policemen in civvies, present inside the jail, re-arrested him."
The 45-year-old hardliner was arrested from his home in Habbakadal area of the city on April 17. Masarat, who was himself seen chanting slogans in support of Pakistan, besides Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was placed under house arrest in Srinagar.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power in Jammu anmd Kashmir in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had condemned the act by separatist leaders and their supporters.
Alam, leader of the hardline-faction of Hurriyat and chief of the Jammu Kashmir Muslim League, was lodged in a Baramulla prison and released in March 2015.
