New Delhi: JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested in a sedition case, was on Wednesday remanded to judicial custody till March 2 by a Delhi court.
Kanhaiya was attacked by a group of lawyers when he was being escorted by police from the vehicle to the Patiala House Court.
The situation at the court premises was tense with a group of lawyers clashing with other lawyers and journalists, prompting the Supreme Court to send a five-member fact finding team.
The attack happened despite a Supreme Court order to maintain law and order at the court premises.
Kanhaiya also released a statement saying he believes in the unity of the country, following which Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said the police will not oppose if he applies for bail.
