THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The proposal for setting up a multi-super speciality hospital complex in Kochi at an outlay of Rs 1,000 crore under the aegis of Kochi Medical City Tourism Private Ltd, a consortium in which former cricketer Kapil Dev is also a promoter, has caught the attention of the State Government.  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has assured Kapil Dev, who called on him with other members of the consortium here on Tuesday, that all help would be extended to the project. The project envisages a 1000-bed hospital, 50-bed ayurvedic hospital, medical convention centre and medical research centre, in addition to a medical college, dental college and para-medical institutions.  The project, on completion, will provide direct employment to 7,000 medical professionals and 25,000 others will stand to benefit indirectly. Kadamakkudi panchayat in Ernakulam district has been earmarked to establish the project. Kapil Dev said that the proposed medical city would go a long way in addressing the brain drain experienced in the state and facilitating modern medical care to those in the state and   abroad.
