Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday attended the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Chinese city of Dalian and visited a number of industrial units besides scouting for foreign investment in his state.
Besides attending the Plenary meet of the WEF inaugurated by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Siddaramaiah met Japanese Minister for education, culture, sports, S~~amp;amp;T Hakubun Shimomura on the sidelines of the forum and discussed possibilities for increased Japanese investments in Karnataka.
The two leaders discussed cooperation in IT sector, an Indian Embassy statement said in Beijing.
They also discussed cooperation in education and possibilities for Japanese support for high speed rail and infrastructure corridors in the state.
This the second time Karnataka is taking part in the global meet. Earlier, former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa took part in the Forum.
Siddaramaiah is the first Congress Chief Minister to visit China in recent years, while Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states including Narendra Modi of Gujarat, Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh, besides Yeddyurappa visited Beijing scouting for Chinese investments.
Siddaramaiah visited IMC, International Metal Working company, which has the State of the Art metal working tools manufacturing facility.
It is one of world's largest companies for metalworking products.
The Taegu Tec Ltd. of Bangalore is a subsidiary of IMC.
He also visited Sinovel Wind Group Company Ltd, one of the biggest wing turbine manufacturing units.
Later, he went to see the Dalian Port promoted by China Grains and Logistic corporation Beiliang Company Ltd. With a capacity of 1.7 Million tones it is one of the biggest grain ports in the world.
