Vijayapura District Hospital is considered one of the best district hospitals in Karnataka. It was named the best healthcare facility grade 1 by ICICI Lombardo and CNBC TV18 awards in 2013. It has also received the Kayakalpa Award under Swach Bharath Abhiyan consecutively for two years–2015-16 and 2016-17. The hospital has been meritorious in terms of healthcare facilities such as sanitation and hygiene, infection control, hospital upkeep and waste management.
Now, the hospital has introduced an automatic chapati-making machine which can make more than 1,500 rotis in two hours. The hospital which used to provide good service to the patients will now also serve delicious food. At present. hospital sees 1,500-2,000 outpatients per day, 60-70 admissions, in 40-50 cycles per day. Around 30-40 emergency cases are managed at Casualty ward every day.
The staff of the district hospital were struggling to feed all the patients. Through this, the patients are given uniform size chapatis at an efficient speed. This machine has been installed with the help of donors which has resulted in reducing the workload on his staff. 500-700 rotis are prepared per hour. This roti-making machine is worth around Rs 2,500. It has been gifted to the district hospital by the donors. This machine makes 500 to 700 rotis per hour. Earlier, 5 to 6 people used to work to meet the demands of the patients for roti. Now, only three workers are needed to make roti.
The machine helps in preparing roti of uniform size to distribute at night. Donors have also provided roti baking machines and cookers, which has seen a lot of change in the kitchen system of the district hospital. This helps to provide clean and tasty food to the inpatients at the right time.
