KOZHIKODE: The Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau (VACB) will soon submit the charge sheet against Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan and seven others including former Revenue Minister K P Rajendran in the case on the allotment of 2.33 acres of government land to a relative of VS in Kasargod. According to Vigilance officials, the investigation is in the final stage and they would submit the charge sheet within one or two months.Sources with the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau North zone in Kozhikode revealed that the investigators have obtained crucial facts that the former Chief Minister had conspired and connived with the other accused to favour his kin in the allotment of government land.So far, the Vigilance have questioned 18 persons in connection with the case. “We have got evidence to prove that the issue was not a mere political allegation to damage the image of VS. There is clear evidence for the foul play and misconduct behind the handing over of the land. The investigating team is planning to question 50 important witnesses, including former ministers and other government officials.”As this is an issue considered by the then Cabinet, we have to take statements of the 18 other ministers. The availability of them for the statement will take some time as all of them are busy politicians, said a senior official with VACB. Some important records also have to be recovered and according to our assumption, we can make it within one month, he added.However, VACB Northern Range SP P Habeeb Rahman said that investigation is in its final phase and the charge sheet in the case is expected to be submitted within two months. He added that more details of the case could not be revealed as investigation is underway.Sources added that as the UDF government is in power at the state, on the special direction of the government, VACB would submit the charge sheet within a month.Apart from V S and Rajendran, officials questioned former Land Revenue Commissioner K R Muraleedharan (third accused), Sheela Thomas, former Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister (fourth accused), Achuthanandan’s relative T K Soman (fifth accused), former Kasargod Collector Anand Singh (sixth accused), Krishnan Kutty (seventh accused) and Achuthanandan’s personal assistant A Suresh (eighth accused) in the case.
