The question of privacy in today's time is a very important one. With space a constraint in most of the places...it's a question of privacy coupled with the dilemma of intimacy that faces most married couples as well as the non-married ones. The question that comes by then is of the yearning of individuals to some private knowing each other a little more.

Look around us…isn’t there a sudden increase in the divorce rates....families falling apart...hate...mistrust...weren’t marriages supposed to last forever…??? Well all of these could very well be a fall-out of a lack of communication between partners….a dearth of time to spend with each other…..and in that case...is it really a crime to spend some private moments in a park....away from crying babies....peeking cousins...inquisitive parents or even the monotony of the four walls that surround our homes???

Not at least the way the Meerut police handled it the other day........and all that these couples were upto….were spending some time with eachother.

ACCEPTED that there are certain social norms that couples should follow...atleast in public….but GIVE ME A BREAK.......these were love birds...looking for some "Space" away from prying eyes and a few were even relatives who were there plainly because of the lack of space than by choice……. Let me clearly make a point here that I'm absolutely against "couples" (as most of us would call them).....coochie cooing and engaging in physical activities........But on the other hand....let's also get a little liberal here, holding hands or just sitting next to each other does not qualify as "immoral" or "Non-acceptable"...atleast in today's society.

And most of all is this really a one-off incident? Ask any of the couples from the colleges as far as Dombivili in Mumbai to those spending time on the tetrapods on Marine Drive….is it really uncommon for a cop to walk upto them…..question them…or at times even demand a “Hafta” plainly to not call their homes and inform their parents? (Wasn’t the Marine Drive Rape a fall-out of one such incident….???)

Isn’t it the social stigma and the fear of parents that force these teenagers to pay-up these cops?? Why can’t society accept Love..?? Is it a crime…?? Do parents today find enough time to break-ice with their kids..??? Are you friends with your kids to whom they can walk upto or are you dictators who force your value systems onto them..?? Questions…..questions…….but where are the answers……????

Well then what's all the noise about...?? Police high handedness........??? A bunch of over-worked frustrated individuals in uniforms out to get some media publicity for themselves.......an attempt that…..of course…. went all wrong....!!!!

But are we not a whole bunch of these frustrated agitated people with double standards......?? What would you do if you were to see your daughter/son, sister/brother in a similar situation? Wouldn't you step in and slap them upfront.....?? Ofcourse…..!!! And the difference a thin line…….. “You have the right to…. and the police DON’T”.......May be that's what everyone’s worried about.......!!!
