Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency, DG Raja on Saturday turned down the security offered by the East Singhbhum district administration urging them to utilize the police to ensure free and fair poll.
Raja is among the 15 candidates in the fray for the Jamshedpur seat in the ensuing parliamentary poll slated for April 17.
In a letter to the Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner of the district in Jamshedpur, Dr. Amitabh Kaushal, Raja said he did not face any threat from any quarter despite being in the social field for over a decade.
Raja said he had visited remote parts of the state on his motorcycle but never faced any problem on security front during the last 12 years as social activists.
As the general election was round the corner and criminal activities in the steel city were on spurt, Raja said it would be better for the administration to utilize its manpower to ensure free and fair election.
Raja said, however, he was ready to honour the offer, if it was mandatory as per the electoral process, he added.
