New Delhi: It's that time of the year when people get into a mad rush to get their hands on a prime piece of real estate in Delhi. Delhi Development Authority's housing auction- the biggest ever, has been rolled out with more than 25,000 flats on offer. The new scheme offers flats ranging from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore across various categories.
62-year-old SH Rehman is applying for a DDA flat for the third time. He says he is fed up of paying rent and is desperate to have his own house.
On Monday, the day the scheme was launched, was marked by chaos, confusion and crashed websites. DDA fell woefully short of brochures for the housing scheme. Sources tell CNN-IBN that the brochures weren't printed on time causing banks to send people off without forms.
This led to a lot of people turning online but that too was in vain. Unable to handle the huge traffic, websites of the DDA and other banks crashed.
Things though were smoother on the second day and the DDA has assured that it will further ease in days to come.
"Things have become better and it would ease out further," DDA VC.
Every year, thousands fill these forms in the hope that their dream of owning a house in the capital could come true. These also include many senior citizens for whom it's an uphill task to turn up everyday. The sale of brochures though will continue till October 9, with the draw of lots likely to be held towards the end of the month.
