Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday praised RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani for supporting several CSR projects in the state as he denied Lokmat Media chairman Vijay Darda’s assertion that businessmen prefer Gujarat over Maharashtra.
Answering a question by Darda during the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Award event, Shinde said: “This allegation is not true. Mukesh Ambani always supports Maharashtra government and our CSR project for improving schools across state. He is generous and always supports us.”
Mukesh Ambani is known to share a cordial relationship with Shinde and was also seen visiting the chief minister’s residence last year with his family for Ganpati Puja celebrations.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Ambani’s daughter Isha Ambani, Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd, won the Indian Businesswoman Award at the Lokmat event on Thursday and dedicated the honour to the entire Reliance family.
“Thank you for this huge honour. Lokmat, as the name itself suggests, has been the people’s voice in Maharashtra. Lokmat has played a pivotal role in enlightening and empowering our society over decades,” Isha Ambani said in her speech.
“I’m truly, truly honored. This recognition is very special to me because my mother, Nita Mukesh Ambani, who is my biggest role model and inspiration, won this award in 2016. For our family, Maharashtra is more than just our home. It is our karma bhoomi,” she added.
Isha Ambani is part of the executive leadership teams as a Member of the Board at Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited and Reliance Foundation (RF), Reliance Foundation Institution of Education and Research, and Dhirubhai Ambani International School.
Isha has led the expansion of the digital footprint for Reliance Retail and launched new formats such as the e-commerce business Ajio and the online beauty platform Tira. She was also involved with the launch and operations of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, launched in Mumbai in March 2023.
