THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The private engineering colleges are cashing in on the confusion over the engineering entrance rank list. Though the scores of engineering entrance examinations were announced along with the medical ranks earlier this month, the delay in announcing the results had been come in handy for the private engineering colleges for going ahead with the admission to management quota seats well ahead of admission for the merit quota seats.Sources said that some managements have informed parents that the management quota admissions will be completed by June 10. They have also demanded Rs 1 lakh as advance for admissions to the seats. In case, the students are admitted to merit quota seats in selffinancing colleges or to government seats later they would have to forfeit this amount."Students opt for management quota seats as they are unsure whether they will find a place in the final rank list," he said. The decision to consider the marks of the PlusII examination for admission to the engineering colleges along with the results of the entrance examinations is causing the delay in publishing the engineering results. The engineering ranklist will be prepared only later by incorporating the PlusII marks of the candidate. The site for online submission of marks of qualifying examination for preparation of engineering rank list and NATA score for architecture rank list is expected to be made available by the first week of June. For the preparation of engineering rank list, equal weightage will be given to the marks obtained in the engineering entrance examination and marks obtained for mathematics, physics and chemistry/computer science/ biotechnology/biology put together in the second year of the Plus II or equivalent examinations. The key number for accessing the home page of the candidate for this purpose has already been sent to the candidates from the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE). Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) B S Mavoji told Express that the notification regarding the submission of marks will be issued very soon. The results of the entrance examinations will be announced during the last week of June. The exact date of the publication of the results will be known after tallying the marks and completing the normalisation process, he said.
