MYSORE: University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor V G Talwar said on Wednesday that the varsity has requested the police to register a criminal case against seven persons, including a retired employee and several other contract employees, for their role in the marks card scam.At the Academic Council meeting here on Wednesday, he said that all the seven accused in the scam were outsiders and were proved guilty in the inquiry conducted by the UoM.The V-C, without disclosing names, said that a departmental inquiry has been ordered to look into the role of three UoM employees in the marks card scandalHe said that action will be taken against the guilty after the inquiry report is submitted before the Syndicate.He said that the students whose marks have been tampered with between 2002- 2009 are permitted to appear for the examination.The students should write the examination in the current syllabus as the Academic Council has permitted beyond the double duration to enable them to appear for examination.The Academic Council has decided to discuss on the proposal of conducting college- level examinations in two years and university examinations for final year degree students to cut down examination work stretching for 90 days.But, Prof Shivaraj withdrew the subject when the V-C said that the Higher Education Council, keen on bringing common regulation for UG and PG courses, has referred the regulations back to the committee.He said that the Council is favouring Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for UG courses to bring uniformity in higher education.The members said that they would wait for the Higher Education Council’s decision as it will be binding on the University.They approved introduction of UGC sponsored course, Tourism and Hotel Management, to be started at JSS College, Gundlupet, that covers hostel accommodation, housekeeping and food and beverage management.The Academic Council gave its nod for instituting a gold medal in Masters of Library and Information Science, to mark the 60th birthday of Vice-Chancellor Prof V G Talwar.The V G Talwar Felicitation Committee has presented Rs1 lakh to institute a gold medal to honour the topper.Rs 50,000 has been given to institute an endowment award after economist Prof C K Renukaraya.
