Mass dharna against sindol project

SAMBALPUR: Hundreds of people from Sambalpur, Boudh and Sonepur districts staged a mass dharna in front of the office of Revenue Division Commissioner (ND) on Wednesday protesting the proposed Sindol Hydro Power Project.The agitators under the banner of Sindol Bruhat Jala Bidyut Prakalpa Birodhi Kriyanusthan submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the RDC (ND). They have demanded scrapping of the MoU and reversal of the earlier notification of the State Government which had declared the project as abandoned.  The local BJD leaders also took part in the dharna and spoke against the decision of the State Government.  Earlier, the Sindol Sangharsh Samiti (SSS)  took out an impressive motorbike rally which began from Shankar Math at Bhatra and culminated at RDC office where they joined the mass dharna.  Besides, the affected people from Sonepur under the banner of Sindol Prakalpa Virodh Manch also participated in the dharna.
