CHENNAI: Chennai Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy charged the DMK for scrapping the ambitious pro-people schemes of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.Speaking at a residents’ welfare association meeting in Neelankarai, he said a unique modern waste-management scheme was rolled out by the CM who was in power in 2004. But the DMK, which was not happy with the response to the scheme, scrapped it as soon as it came to power. “It was a deliberate act of political vendetta,” he said.“Now, we are migrating to modern technology which is being used in 193 countries and a two-member team had been appointed to study the entire process and to adapt it to Chennai, as per instructions from the AIADMK supremo. Door-door garbage collection and covered dumping bins will be part of this project,” he said“It is Amma who rolled out the scheme to lay plastic roads and concrete roads. The life of plastic roads will be anywhere between 7 and 12 years and concrete roads will last upto 25 years,” Duraisamy observed.
