Merchant Navy ship sinks off Lakshadweep, all crew members rescued
The ship - Asian Express - began sinking after it developed a crack below its hull near the water line.

Kochi: A Merchant Navy ship on its way to Maldives from Pakistan began sinking near the Minicoy island, Lakshadweep, nearly 300 km west of Kochi, on Wednesday evening. The ship - Asian Express - was carrying cement and sand and had developed a crack below its hull near the waterline.

According to reports, all 22 members on board the ship were rescued. Out of them, four were Indians and the rest were from Maldives.

The Indian Navy is assisting in the rescue operations and a coast guard ship has been dispatched to the site.

The vessel had developed engine failure on Tuesday night and was drifting, reports said.
