Sitapur: Family members of a rape survivor in Uttar Pradesh have locked themselves up inside their house for the past nine days. The family claims that the minor girl was raped by 3 men in the area in front of 3 family members.
The family members claim that they are being threatened by the rapists to withdraw their complaint.
The survivor's statement was registered under section 164, in which she has lodged a complaint against three accused. The family accuses that despite the complaint, the police has not taken any action yet due to which the accused and his colleagues are threatening them.
The incident took place in the Manpur police station of Govardhanpur village on August 31. When the 16-year-old girl shouted, her brother came for help but the accused and his aides later threatened him.
A case has been registered against the three accused under article 376, 511 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code. Thereafter the girl was taken for a medical examination.
According to police, one person has been arrested in connection with the case while two others are still absconding.
The UP government has tweeted saying that police have been instructed to provide sufficient protection to the family.
