New Delhi: Award-winning filmmaker Mira Nair, who put India in the spotlight with her Oscar nominated film, Salaam Bombay, has come down heavily on Bollywood’s bigwigs.
Nair is one of the directors who will make a 12-minute film, to be screened before the start of feature films across theatres in India, and will be funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Monsoon Wedding director said that Bollywood’s A-list of actors had refused to star in the series of short films designed to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS in India.
“Lots of stars don't want to be associated with the virus. Some live and don't learn," she was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying.
Bill and Melinda Gates foundation in India has also short listed directors Farhan Akhtar, Vishal Bhardwaj and Santosh Sivan for the films.
