CHENNAI: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was abducted in JJ Nagar on Friday, was dropped by the abductor at the same place from where she had gone missing, on Saturday. Police suspect that the girl could have been sexually assaulted as there were injuries on her body, while the man, who was caught by the public while attempting to flee after leaving the girl at the spot, had allegedly been involved in such acts earlier. Police said that the girl had gone to a nearby shop to buy a pencil on Friday evening when she had gone missing. A complaint was lodged with the police, who formed special teams and began a search for the girl.Early on Saturday, when worried relatives of the girl were sitting at the entrance of their house, they saw her coming running towards them. “We were sitting in front of our house since 3 am after all efforts to find our daughter failed. Around 6 am, I saw her coming towards us and a man getting down from a share auto and escaping into the next street. The man had left my daughter in the same place from where she had gone missing,” said her mother Sandhya.Soon, the man was caught by a neighbour and thrashed by the public before being handed over to the police. “He had behaved like a psychopath and made my daughter starve the whole night. He had hit her on the head, poked her cheeks with a stick, scratched her back and bitten her all over her body. My daughter’s lips are swollen. She identified him as the person who kidnaped her the previous day,” Sandhya said.Police said that the man lured the girl by promising to get her a pencil and took her to a dilapidated structure in a secluded spot in Mugappair, where he had assaulted her. The girl was sent to a government hospital for a medical check-up.“He was involved in two such cases in Maduravoyal earlier. We also checked with Virugambakkam and KK Nagar police stations about him, but there were no cases against him. He seemed to be mentally ill. We took the little girl to all the places she led us to. He did not get her any food, but had offered only tea which she had refused,” a police official said.
