CHENNAI: Accusing the ruling AIADMK of stifling democracy in the state Assembly, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today said none would be able to finish off the party as it had withstood many a challenge in the past."What more challenge the DMK would face than it had during the Emergency. Even late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi could not finish off the DMK. Later, Gandhi herself at a public meeting here expressed regret for the excesses," he said at a marriage function.Recalling DMK founder C N Annadurai's words on "democracy blooming in the state assembly", Karunanidhi said "one has to search for democracy in the assembly today".Even yesterday, that was the reason DMK members walked out of the assembly, he said adding when his party was in power it had respected the opposition.Ridiculing a state minister for narrating the story of a greedy farmer and targeting his sons M K Stalin, M K Alagiri and DMK, Karunanidhi, without taking the name of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, said it was those who had accumulated wealth from Rs two crore to Rs 66 crore and faced court cases in Bangalore who were greedy.
