BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally in Lucknow was an out-and-out attack on Samajwadi Party and Congress over their 'secularism' plank.

"They say forget jobs, forget water, forget prices let's talk of secularism; it is under threat", said Modi taking a jibe at the two parties.

He said that the two parties were hiding under the garb of secularism to cover up their failures.

Modi who has not yet been able to get rid of the criticism over Gujarat riots noted the number of communal riots that occurred in UP. He accused the SP of instigating over 150 communal riots in the state. "There has not been a single riot or curfew in Gujarat,." he said.

Modi invited leaders to talk about development and not vote bank politics. He took potshots at SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav saying that it was he who inspired the former of talking development during his speeches. "I am glad that Neta Ji is forced to talk about development in his rallies", he said.

Mulayam had earlier in the day held a rally in Allahabad where he compared the crowds drawn to political rallies held by SP and Modi. He claimed that the BJP's rally in Lucknow was to compete with SP.

Giving it back to the party chief, Modi said that Mulayam had accepted defeat by talking about the crowds at both the rallies.

The Gujarat Chief Minister further attacked the SP government in state over law and order situation. He quipped at Minister Azam Khan whose buffaloes had gone missing recently and for which a high-level search team was constituted. He asked if the UP Police would bother if a boy went absconding in the state.
