Carlos Moya of Spain eased his way into the second round with a straight sets win over Alexander Waske of Germany.
Chennai: Tennis fans in Chennai had a field day as crowd favourite Carlos Moya of Spain eased his way into the second round with a straight sets win over Alexander Waske of Germany.
Denied a third successive Chennai Open title last year when he had lost to Ivan Ljubicic, the fifth seeded Moya won the first set 7-6 in 49 minutes.
And even though the unseeded Waske tried his best, Moya was relentless as he steamrolled through the second set in just 32 minutes, winning it 6-3.
Moya will now take on the winner of the match between Kevin Kim and Simon Greul in the second round.
