New Delhi: The wife and two sons of an MP from Bihar have been fined Rs 10,380 for occupying a train coupe that was booked in the politician’s name.
Railways officials boarded the AC coach of the New Delhi-Patna Rajdhani Express near Kanpur and found that a coupe reserved in Janta Dal (United) leader Prabhunath Singh’s name was occupied by his wife, sons and supporters. The officials were allegedly prevented from taking action against the group.
A senior Railway official and Railway police officials then boarded the train at Allahabad after midnight and fined the MP's wife and her two sons.
An MP’s spouse is permitted to travel in a coupe reserved in her husband's name only when Parliament is in session. The train resumed the journey to Patna after 30 minutes.
Prabhunath Singh represents Maharajganj in Parliament.
