A 24-year-old milk vendor died on Thursday after a speeding SUV driven by a 17-year old boy crashed on his two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Goregaon area.
Three people have been arrested in connection to the incident, which took place at around 4 pm in the area’s Aarey Colony.
According to police, the victim, Navin Vaishnaw died after a Mahindra Scorpio which was on the wrong side collided with his two-wheeler.
A case was also registered against the SUV owner Iqbal Jivani (48) and his son Mohammed Faz Iqbal Jivani (21), as the accused driver is 17 years old, officials said.
After hitting the two-wheeler, the SUV hit an electric pole. The teenage driver tried to flee, but he had sustained injuries and was caught by police.
The accused’s blood samples were sent to a laboratory to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol, the official said.
Police were also investigating whether the accused had partied with his friends before the accident.
Few months back, a tragic incident occurred in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals after a Porsche car, allegedly driven by a minor, collided with their two-wheeler.
After the two IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh were killed in the incident, massive outrage triggered nationwide, partly because of the accused getting bail from the Juvenile Justice Board on lenient terms and due to a police probe finding attempts by his kin and some doctors to cover up the crime.
