Mumbai: In an unfortunate incident, a 26-year-old railway police constable succumbed to the injuries he had sustained on Monday while travelling in a local train near Seawoods railway station in Navi Mumbai. Deepak Jadhav, who was attached with the Vashi railway police, was on patrol duty in a CST-Panvel train, when a stone hit him on his head under the newly built Seawoods flyover.
Cops are trying to figure out if the stone was thrown at him by a miscreant, or fell accidentally. According to the Vashi railway police, Jadhav boarded the Panvel-bound local train from Vashi. After crossing Seawoods railway station, he suddenly collapsed in the compartment, having been hit by a stone. The passengers rushed Jadhav to MGM Hospital in Belapur, from where he was later shifted to MGM Hospital in Vashi.
B D Bhujbal, senior police inspector at Vashi railway police station said, "It was the passengers who stopped the local at Belapur station and rushed him to the nearby MGM Hospital. The doctors there suggested we shift him to Kamothe's MGM Hospital. Unfortunately, Jadhav suffered a heart attack in the hospital, so we shifted him to MGM Hospital in Vashi, which is equipped with advanced medical technology."
As per Vashi's MGM Hospital records, Jadhav succumbed to his head injury and the heart attack he suffered around 10.20 am. Sanjeev Kumar Kalkekar, consultant cardiologist, MGM Hospital, Vashi, said, "When Jadhav was brought in, he had already suffered a cardiac arrest, which had worsened his condition. In spite of giving him proper medication, he failed to respond positively and passed away."
The railway police have initiated a probe to ascertain the exact cause of Jadhav's death. G S Bhandare, deputy commissioner of police, Central railways, said, "Investigations are on to find out whether the stone was thrown at him intentionally by a miscreant, or fell accidentally off the Seawoods flyover. We have inspected the site where the accident occurred."
A resident of Kamothe, Jadhav had tied the knot in May last year.
