Islamabad: Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said President Pervez Muharraf's autobiography should have been called 'In the Line of a Liar' as it contained only "lies and fabrications."
"The book should more appropriately be called 'In the Line of a Liar'," Sharif said about Musharraf's In the Line of Fire, which was launched in September amid major publicity stunts and even more controversy.
Sharif insisted that he had not been briefed by Musharraf on the Kargil operation as claimed by the General and said the photograph produced as evidence in the book was nothing more than a briefing on opening of a new road.
Addressing members of his Pakistan Muslim League-N over phone from London at a party leader's house in New York, Sharif said the entire nation of Pakistan was against terrorism and not just Musharraf.
A democratic government would never have buckled under foreign pressures like Musharraf did on a phone call, but would have referred the matter to Parliament and taken a decision after a debate on the pros and cons of joining the war on terror, Dawn daily quoted him as saying.
Musharraf's "hasty" decision had brought misery and chaos to Pakistan, he added.
Refusing to enter into a deal or a compromise with Musharraf under any circumstances, Sharif reiterated his call to liberate the country from military rule and said: "The time has come to remove the Army from politics."
The PML-N leader said he would meet former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in London on October 19 to discuss how to advance commitments made the 'Charter for Democracy' agreed by their parties.
