THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: She had won eight pageants before being crowned as Femina Miss India-World, is rated as an A-lister in the industry circuits and considered to have ‘one of the most gorgeous bodies’. For young and vivacious Natasha Suri, beauty and fashion did not begin after winning the 2006 Femina Miss India-World. The world of fashion was no foreign land as she had won eight beauty pageants including Navy Queen, Miss Maharashtra, Get Gorgeous-1 among others. But her career bloomed after Miss India title was added to her kitty. “I was always into beauty and Miss India contest just provided a platform for my career. Even Get Gorgeous-1 (a model hunt reality show conducted by Channel V) was a great platform as I got more exposure through it,” says Natasha.Natasha was in Kochi recently to participate in the Kochi International Fashion Week (KIFW) as the showstopper for top designer James Ferriera. In her opinion Kochi and its people have changed. Their attitude towards fashion is more open now when compared to previous years. “More young people from Kerala are now opting for a career in modelling and this KIFW itself is the proof for it”. Though she is not coming to Kerala for the first time she says she loves being here. “I have visited Kerala for more than 50 times and in 2008 I came to judge Miss Kerala. There is no wonder why people call this place ‘God’s Own Country’. The climate and the greenery will make anyone fall in love with the place.” Another thing she loves about Kerala is the food as she is half South Indian. Within a span of five years Natasha has participated in almost all the major fashion shows of the country and had been the runway model for all the top designers. “I have participated in six seasons of India Fashion week and Lakme Fashion week,” she says. She has done over 600 shows in India and abroad. Natasha who is known for her 23-inch waist has walked the ramp for international shows like Rome Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week and Sri Lanka Fashion Week. The main difference that she finds in the international and Indian fashion is, “Here only a section of the society follows fashion, but there you will see fashion on the streets. Even a common man there follows fashion.” She has worked with all the leading designers in India including Tarun Tahiliani, Ritu Kumar, Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, Narendra kumar, Neeta Lulla, Hemant Trevedi, Manish Arora and Wendell Rodricks along with foreign brands like Valentino, Gucci, Versace and more. Apart from being a runway model she has graced several prestigious print campaigns and endorsements like Ponds, Pepsodent, Audi, Tanishq, Snickers and Parachute to name a few. After her stint in beauty contests and modelling Natasha has now shifted to television. Her current projects include hosting a show in Zee TV with Sunny Deol and another one in Bindaas. When asked whether she has no plans to enter Bollywood she says, “TV is my main focus now as I think we can reach to more people. It’s going to be a bigger medium in the near future but in films there is always an uncertainty...some might click and some others won’t. A film can be a flop or can be stuck in production and won’t see the light of the day sometimes.”Asked about future plans she says, “Right now I am happy with what I am doing. I am relaxed and having a great time, so as such I have not made any specific future plans.”
