THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Food and Nutrition Board are jointly observing a National Nutrition Week from September 1 to 7. The theme for this year is ‘On the steps of nutrition lies the emancipation of next generation - This is our vision and conviction’. The theme intends to address malnutrition and to generate awareness to tackle the problem through the existing health care delivery system by formulating strategies, policies and plan of action, thereby improving the nutritional status of the community. Various programmes are being planned in different districts as part of the programme. In Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts are jointly arranging the celebrations. As part of this, a state-level workshop is being planned on September 5 at Hotel Highland at Manjalikkulam Road, Thampanoor here, at 10 am. P K Subhash, director, Doordarshan, will inaugurate the workshop.The workshop will see supervisory staff from Department of Social Welfare, Health, Education and NGOs participating. A variety of programmes, including cooking competitions for women, quiz competitions for school children, cooking demonstrations, puppet shows, exhibitions and film slide shows have been planned. There will be musical performances to convey the message of healthy eating habits.
