New Delhi: Breaking her silence on the Volcker Committee report, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday declared that anyone found guilty in the inquiry into the oil-for-food programme will not be spared.

Talking to the media she said that action will be taken against Natwar Singh if he is found guilty. But that will happen only when the Volcker Report is proven genuine.

She also rejected a suggestion that she was "protecting" former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh when the controversy broke out.

She also said that though she was angered by the report, swift action needs to be taken on the Volcker findings.

"Obviously, we are waiting for the results of the inquiry. Action will be taken if something comes out against any individual if he has indulged in some activities."

Making it clear that she fully backed the Government decision on instituting a judicial probe into the allegations and was "100 per cent with it" to get to the bottom of the problem.

Congress' spokesman on the issue, Anand Sharma said, "Sonia Gandhi has said that an inquiry will be conducted. We have also stood by the fact that if something comes out in an inquiry and if anybody is found guilty then he will not be spared"
