New Delhi: Desperate to seek justice for her husband, Naushad's wife Suhaila on Thursday met Chief Minister Oomen Chandy in Thiruvananthpuram. She was accompanied by her uncle and Punalur MLA P S Supal.

After the meeting, Suhaila told reporters that the CM had assured her that he would do everything possible to help Naushad.

The Shariat Court found Puthan Vettil Naushad guilty of permanently damaging an eye of a Saudi national and ruled that one of Naushad's eyes be gouged out and donated to him.

Naushad, the 33-year-old Keralite who is jailed in Saudi Arabia who would lose his eye if the court verdict is carried out on Thursday.

Supal said the option of Naushad's wife submitting a mercy petition to the king of Saudi Arabia was being considered. However, this required the permission of the Saudi government.

Sources at the CM's office said Chandy had discussed the matter with Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary T K A Nair and Indian Ambassador in Iraq M O H Farooq.

Meanwhile, in a statement to the press Chandy said, "The ambassador has already conveyed our concern and our request to the Saudi Arabia authorities. and he has promised he will take all necessary steps to help Naushad in this case."

All MPs from Kerala have signed a memorandum asking the PM to intervene in the matter.
